With a matchup against Eau Gallie High School approaching, the Melbourne High School junior varsity baseball team focused on preparation. Sophomore Finn LoDuca, who had played baseball for 11 years, said the Bulldogs prepared by doing “lots of repeated reps and working on the little things like hitting and fielding.” LoDuca filled multiple roles on the field, playing outfield, second base, shortstop and pitcher.

In addition to physical practice, LoDuca said he prepared mentally before every practice. “I always say a prayer before every practice and give it all to God.” He added that the team worked well together in high-pressure moments and stayed connected when games were close. As the Bulldogs looked ahead to Eau Gallie, LoDuca said his favorite part of the sport was “being with all the guys on the team and bonding together as brothers.” With experience, versatility and teamwork on their side, the team aimed to carry its focus into the game.
