Students Prepare forTesting During Spring Break by Ava Brouard
Before spring break, two ninth grade students were asked about their plans to prepare for upcoming state tests. The first student, William King, said he is a ninth grader, and is focused on “world history and biology.” His goal for the test was to do his best and to try as hard as possible. King stated that he “planned to study biology at home during the weekend, or after school over spring break”. King said that reviewing notes and class material helps him stay prepared.
King also shared how he planned to stay motivated during the break. He said studying during spring break was important because students could forget what they were taught if they did not review. King planned to “look over and review notes to keep the information in my head.” King explained that he usually studied at home in a quiet environment. He said thinking about “failure and how it could affect my future helps me stay motivated and continue to study.”
Another student, Faith Helmes, also shared her study plans. Helmes, a ninth grader, was most focused on “world history.”Her goal for the state testing was to “pass and try my hardest.” Helmes explained that she plans to study history and Spanish during spring break. Helmes said she “usually studies at a friends house or in my bedroom on the weekends,” and stays motivated by thinking about her future and college.

Both students mention that they plan to set aside specific times each day to study so that they can stay organized and not fall behind. King says “practicing problems helps me understand the concepts better,” while Helmes says “reviewing my notes and doing practice essays help me feel more confident.” They both agree that studying over break will give them a head start for when they return to school.
