As the third quarter came to an end at Melbourne High School, students and teachers shifted their focus toward finishing the year strong. The transition marked a time of reflection on growth and preparation for final projects, exams, and end-of-year activities.

As Melbourne High School transitions from the third to fourth quarter, students and teachers prepare for a strong finish to the year. Mrs. Laura Zamora, who has taught physics at the school for six years, reflected on the academic momentum. “I have been routinely impressed by my students’ activity, especially on projects, and their growth in thinking like physicists,” said Zamora. She also explained that they take advantage of opportunities to be creative, highlighting how her students stay engaged. “They take advantage of opportunities to be creative and put unique spins on things,” said Zamora, while noting upcoming hands-on challenges. “We always do a Rube Goldberg project, and this year we will be designing space stations,” said Zamora, emphasizing how the final quarter continues to challenge students in new ways.

Junior Lauren Deacon reflected on her academic and personal growth, sharing that she had “been evolving to [her] study style” since the beginning of the year, said Deacon. Her most effective strategy had been that “handwriting [her] notes and doing practice problems is the best study method for [her],” said Deacon, which helped her stay on track in rigorous classes. As the fourth quarter approached, she explained that she planned to “stay more organized and motivated for upcoming exams,” said Deacon, showing how students were preparing to end the year with focus and determination.
