Playing The Game by Kyra Chang
Every spring, the juniors and seniors from the IB program competed in field day activities. The students got out during 4th period and stayed the remainder of the school day. This year, the event took place on March 30th. “IB field day was a chance for the juniors to compete against the seniors in a series of outdoor games,” said Junior Eva Beasley. In order to show their class spirit, juniors wore blue and seniors wore pink. “We wore pink because it’s such a fun color that everyone can resonate with and shows how we can be more unique than the juniors,” said Senior Arianna Johnson.
There were several games that they competed in, such as capture the flag, sharks and minnows, and a pyramid building competition. “My favorite part was being able to play capture the flag with my friends because it reminded of me of fun, nostalgic elementary school days,” said Johnson. Beasley enjoyed all the games, but the next year she hoped for there to be more. “I think maybe we could add something before hand so we already have our teams for each game set, that way everyone who wanted to play gets to and knows when they will play,” said Beasley. “Next year I hope I can add a mind day. I think this would be more inclusive towards people who are injured or cannot run because they have track meet the next day. It would be cool if we did an escape room inside the media center in teams or maybe a sudoku challenge in teams.”
Both Beasley and Johnson believed that having IB field day was important. “I think it’s definitely important because it gives the IB students something to look forward to. It allows the IB Juniors and Seniors to get to know each other too. After all the hard work we put into school, it’s really important to have a break, specially an athletic one,” said Beasley. “I do think it’s important because I feel like as IB kids we get really stressed out, so having that day takes a little stress off of our already stressful schedules,” said Johnson.

IB field day was a way for IB juniors and seniors to celebrate their hard work and take a break. “To be honest all of it was so much fun, but my favorite part was when we were competing to see who could make the best human triangle,” said junior Eva Beasley.
