Spotlight: Psychology by Jayda Blanc
Melbourne High School Psychology class, taught by Mr. Buchanan gave students a deeper meaning of how the brain functions and behaviors that connect to everyday life. Students explored topics through activities, discussions, and assignments designed to make learning engaging and productive. The class focused on helping students understand how people think, feel, and act, while also preparing them for future studies and interest in psychology. Freshman Aiden Blanc, described his experience as “My experience from being in Psychology is good and fun and helps me learn new things about the brain”.
Students experienced a variety of learning methods in the class that helped them better understand psychological terms. Blanc explained, “We have quizzes, work sheets, word search or discussion questions on the topics we learn in class”, while also sharing his study habits saying “ I study on Wednesday or before our quizzes/discussions questions”. Similarly, Freshman Brooke Burford said, “ We take notes,watch movies related to psychology, watch crash courses, take quizzes and do word searches”, showcasing the different activities used in class. Burford also added, “ I take notes and review them before my test” showing how students prepared for assessments.
The Psychology class impacted students beyond the classroom by helping them apply psychological terms to real life situations. Burford explained, “ It helps me understand how us humans function better after taking psychology..”. Also, Blanc explained, “It will impact my life by me learning how the brain behaves and works”, and also added “It will help me know more about the brain and how it performs”. Overall, the course helped students get a better understanding of human behavior and brain.

DISCOVERY TO THE BRAIN: During class, Senior, Dakota Leah participates in a Psychology lesson led by Mr. Buchanan at Melbourne High School. The course focuses on understanding the brain and human behavior through interactive activities, etc. Students participate in hands-on learning, complete quizzes, and group work to stay engaged and to better understand the material. Psychology class provides critical thinking and real world connections to the brain. “ Being in Psychology is fun and has helped me learn new things,” said Bellflower.
