Classes and Career Chances by Aiden Kehayias

The electives chosen in high school were often about student passions and possible careers. Some chose ROTC if they had a desire to join the military or simply want the comraderie that came with ROTC. Others chose an art such as Digital Design or 3D Art. Melbourne High School offered many different options for students and with this school year coming to a close, students have been able to choose whats next for them in the coming year.

Maya Essa, a dual-enrolled  junior here at Melbourne High School and Eastern Florida State College, has expressed interest in one day becoming a Pediatrician. She wanted to become one for a long time, “I have been considering it since I was seven,” said Essa, “I really want to work with kids” she elaborated. Essa took Microbiology, humanities, and speech, “I’ve enjoyed them, I’ve gotten to speak about my home country of Egypt… and learn a lot” said Essa. With this year coming to a close, it is also soon time to say goodbye to the year classes and look forward to next year. Jillian Kehayias, a Freshman here at Mel High, expressed her excitement for her next year electives. “I’m interested in taking Chorus and journalism” said Kehayias, “for Chorus, because it’s fun, I like music, and Journalism because a friend invited me and I thought it could also be fun” Kehayias explained.

Passions can come alive through electives and be expanded. Making electives an important to the students of Melbourne High School. It gave students freedom to learn what they want to study outside of the standard curriculum. With this school year coming to a close, students have had time to think about what they want next and it has excited them.
