Mel High Chorus Brings Back Boy Bands by Brooke Johnson

On Friday, May 1st, the chorus at Melbourne High School took the stage for a concert centered around a lively and familiar theme: boy bands. Students had been preparing songs that many audience members recognized, creating excitement for both performers and attendees. “The theme for the concert is Boy Bands,” said Camila Dommar, a 9th grader involved in the performance. The theme brought together popular hits that have remained well-known over time, making the concert appealing to a wide audience. Dommar  also shared details about her group’s setlist. “I’m in Cantare and the songs that we are singing for the concert are Backstreet’s Back, Sucker, Payphone, I Want It That Way, and Bye Bye Bye,” she said. These songs, originally performed by major artists, brought energy and nostalgia to the stage.

Other students expressed enthusiasm about the music choices. “I like the songs we’re singing because they’re fun, well known by the public, and energetic,” said Connie Jean, a 9th grader. “These songs are very easy to have fun with and get our audience excited about.” The concert was not only an opportunity for students to perform, but also for the community to come together and support the school’s music program. “Everyone who is able to come and who wants to support our choir should come!” Jean  added. “It’s free and open to the public. Seats are first come first serve.” With recognizable songs, an upbeat theme, and an open invitation to the community, the May 1st chorus concert drew a crowd and showcased the hard work of Melbourne High’s student performers.
