Team 386 prepared for the trip to Houston with a mix of excitement and nerves as tools, robot parts, and team gear were packed. Conversations about competing on a huge stage made everything feel more real. “I heard the team went to Houston last year and I’m very excited to be in  the team this year”, Manuel Castillo. The bus ride and planning meetings brought everyone closer, and even those who couldn't attend were excited that their team made it. “Even though I couldn't attend I’m happy that my team made it to championships”, Kaya Kerins said.

They qualified for Worlds through hard work and consistency, earning points and recognition throughout the season. At the regional events they earned ranking points from matches and performances, allowing them to get the opportunity to go to Huston even if they didn’t go to finals in Orlando and Tallahassee. “Even though we earned points to go to Houston our team impact presentation also played a part of it in Tallahassee”, Castillo said. “Impact did such an amazing job in Tallahassee and I’m proud of them for getting to present it in worlds”, Kerins said. The team really focused on outreach and leadership, knowing that awards like the FIRST impact award is an honor.

As the trip approached, the team reflected on everything they had accomplished together and looked forward to competing on a global stage. Many students remembered late nights working on the robot, “Everyday after school we were working until nine, it was hard but worth it”, Castillo said. “We all worked hard, especially the seniors. I hope they are proud in what they’ve accomplished”, Kerins said.
