M/J Visual Art 1 (#0101100): In this semester-long class, students learn the full process of making art, from planning their ideas, to creating the artwork, to thinking about what they made. The class focuses on studio art, and students get to try many different materials and techniques in both 2‑D and 3‑D art. Projects might include drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, mixed media, pottery, and sculpture. Students build their technical skills, learn how to express themselves, and use the elements of art throughout their work.
This course requires a $10 art fee.
M/J Two-Dimensional Studio Art 2 (#0101020): In this yearlong class, students improve their skills in making 2‑D art, like drawing, painting, printmaking, and collage. They learn how to use the elements of art in creative ways and try new ideas to make their artwork more interesting. They also learn how to talk about art, how to judge their own work, and others’ work to see how they’ve grown as artists. This class involves lots of hands‑on projects and uses different art supplies.
This course requires a $10 art fee per semester.
M/J Three-Dimensional Studio Art 2 (#0101050): In this yearlong class, students create 3‑D art using materials like clay, cardboard, papier mache, and other sculpting supplies. They learn about design, craftsmanship, and safety while making both useful and decorative objects. The class includes hands-on projects and teaches students how to evaluate their own artwork and others’ work.
This course requires a $10 art fee per semester.
M/J Two-Dimensional Studio Art 3 (#0101026): In this yearlong class, students take their 2‑D art skills to a more advanced level. They get better at drawing, painting, printmaking, and collage, and they learn to use the elements of art confidently and independently. Students are encouraged to try new ideas and take creative risks in their artwork. They also study art from many cultures around the world to understand how different people create and use art. Students learn how to talk about art and how to judge their own work and others’ work to see how they’ve improved.
This course requires a $10 art fee per semester and teacher approval.
M/J Three-Dimensional Studio Art 3 (#0101060): In this yearlong advanced class, students take their 3‑D art skills to a more advanced level. Student will learn how to use different materials to create 3‑D art, like useful objects and/or decorative sculptures. They might work on projects involving environmental design, sculpture, ceramics, installation art, or small models. Students also try techniques like carving, casting, and building maquettes. Students focus on making their work strong, neat, and well‑designed. Safety is important, so students follow rules when using tools and materials. They also learn how to talk about art, how to judge their own work, and others’ work to see how they’ve grown. This class includes hands‑on projects and uses lots of art supplies.
This course requires a $10 art fee per semester and teacher approval.
