📅 August Spotlight: Attendance Awareness

🏫 September Spotlight: Being On Time

🎃 October Spotlight: Pedestrian Safety Month

August is Attendance Awareness Month.

Strong attendance builds the foundation for student success.

Families can support children by setting consistent routines, planning ahead for school days, and encouraging them to be present and engaged every day.

September is all about building strong habits for punctuality.

Arriving on time helps children feel prepared, reduces stress, and sets the tone for a successful school day.

Families can support this by planning morning routines, setting alarms, and practicing time management together.

October is Pedestrian Safety Month.

Teaching children how to walk safely to and from school builds lifelong habits.

Families can practice using crosswalks, looking both ways, and staying alert near traffic.

Together, we can make every walk a safe one.

🦃 November Spotlight: Parent & Family Engagement

❄️ December Spotlight: Supporting Children During School Breaks

💡 January Spotlight: Screen Time

Parents are the child’s first teacher, and their involvement is key to student success.

Engaged parents and caregivers strengthen the connection between home and school, support learning, and build a sense of community.

Encourage families to share traditions, attend school events, and collaborate with teachers to create a supportive environment.

Winter break is a wonderful opportunity to keep children engaged at home.

Encourage creativity, daily reading, and family time to make learning fun even outside the classroom.

Set Clear expectations. Post Guidelines and rules at the start of break to prevent miscommunication. Outline what you expect for how time is spent, what needs to get done, etc. For example, for every hour of screen time, do 10 - 15 minutes of physical activity.

January is the time to reflect on healthy screen time habits.

Families can set boundaries for device use, encourage tech-free moments, and explore digital tools that support learning.

Balancing screen time helps children stay focused, active, and engaged both online and offline.

Create a tech-free zone at home - designate spaces like the dinner table or bedrooms where devices are put away, encouraging family connection and better rest.

🪥 February Spotlight: National Children’s Dental Health Month

🍎 March Spotlight: Help Your Child Make Healthy Food Choices

📖 April Spotlight: Read Aloud 15 Minutes Every Child, Every Parent, Every Day

Healthy teeth are essential for children’s overall well‑being and confidence.

Families can support dental health by encouraging daily brushing and flossing, choosing nutritious snacks, and scheduling regular dental checkups.

Strong habits today build bright smiles for tomorrow.

Teach your child about the importance of oral hygiene and make dental care a fun and engaging activity.

March is the time to focus on nutrition and healthy eating habits.

Families can guide children to make smart food choices by:

1. Offering a variety of fruits and vegetables.

2. Encouraging water instead of sugary drinks.

3. Involving kids in meal planning and preparation.

4. Teaching portion control and balanced meals.

5. Modeling healthy eating habits at home.

Small steps each day help children build lifelong healthy routines.

April is the month to celebrate the power of reading aloud.

Just 15 minutes a day can spark imagination, strengthen language skills, and build lasting family connections.

Families are encouraged to make reading together a daily habit — every child, every parent, every day.

The benefits of reading 15 minutes a day extend beyond just academic readiness - they encompass nurturing a love for learning, cultivating essential early literacy skills, and fostering special bonds between you and your child.

🌸 May Spotlight: 5 Ways to Relieve End‑of‑School Year Stress

☀️ June Spotlight: Summer Fun Ideas

🎒 July Spotlight: Back‑to‑School Prep

May can be a stressful time as families and children wrap up the school year.

Here are five simple ways to ease the transition and reduce stress:

1. Practice mindfulness together with short breathing exercises.

2. Keep routines consistent to provide stability.

3. Break big tasks into smaller, manageable steps.

4. Encourage physical activity to release tension.

5. Celebrate accomplishments to end the year on a positive note.

Summer is the perfect season for outdoor play and family adventures.

Encourage children to stay active, explore nature, and enjoy creative projects that keep their minds engaged during the break.

Children can lose up to 40% of the gains which is equivalent to two months of learning they have made over the school year while on summer break.

Help your child continue to learn anytime and anywhere. Play "help" me find or count the number games. "Look for something that starts/ends with letter A" at the grocery store.

July is the time to prepare children for a smooth transition back to school.

Families can focus on organizing supplies, re‑establishing routines, and building excitement for learning in the year ahead.
