Education Location Option

Education Location Option banner

Education Location Option (ELO) allows families to request a school other than their assigned (zoned) school.

ELO placements are determined by a lottery process. If space becomes available during the school year, students may be offered a seat through an ongoing waitlist.

Who Can Apply?

To apply for a non-zoned school through ELO:

  • You must be a current Florida resident.

  • You must upload two proofs of residency (one Tier 1 and one Tier 2 document) into your Focus account before submitting your application.

Click the Tier 1 and Tier 2 Link to view the list of approved proof of residency documents.

If your child is offered a seat through ELO, a parent and student agreement is required. This agreement covers expectations for:

  • Behavior

  • Attendance

  • Academic performance

Parents will complete this agreement during the online application process in Focus by confirming a series of “Agree” statements.

  • For high school students all seats are conditional until student academic criteria requirements are confirmed and student’s grade level is equivalent to cohort.

Frozen Schools

Click the Frozen Schools Link to view schools that are not currently accepting ELO applications. These schools are closed to ELO requests because their projected neighborhood (zoned) enrollment is at 95% or greater of total capacity, pursuant to District Policy 5121 and Policy 5120.

Athletics:

Parents/legal guardians of non-traditional students (i.e. home education, private school, charter school) who wish to participate in a sport at a school for which they are not zoned, per FHSAA Bylaw 9.2, must follow Brevard’s controlled open enrollment and apply via our ELO process within determined deadlines.  For more information, go to the BPS Athletic Page.
