Title I Components
Homeless (Students in Transition)
Title I assists the district in providing support for homeless students. These services include providing the following support as appropriate for each situation: backpacks filled with school supplies and/or before or after school academic support for academically eligible students-in-transition.
Migrant Education
The school district is responsible for continually identifying migrant children as they enroll in school. Once the students are identified and receive a Certificate of Eligibility from the State, the migrant children are eligible for Title I services.
Private Schools
A third party vendor is utilized to provide tutoring services in reading and math to eligible students. Parent engagement activities and professional development opportunities are offered to parents and teachers of students who receive Title I services. Title I funds are generated by the number of economically disadvantaged students enrolled in the private school who reside in public Title I school attendance areas.
Family Engagement
Brevard Public Schools' mission is to serve every student with excellence as the standard. We believe that family engagement is essential to fulfilling this mission. In an effort to build meaningful partnerships with schools, families and community, the district seeks to strengthen the relationships among stakeholders and promote collaborative planning, decision making and improvement efforts. We know that engaging parents in the education of children and fostering leadership opportunities will positively impact achievement and help ensure that we meet the needs of all students in Brevard Public Schools.
Staff Development
Title 1 currently offers site base support for schools as needed. This includes standard aligned planning sessions, coaching and modeling lessons, professional development and school base data desegregation. Title 1 also offers a variety of staff development sessions across the district. Teachers learn about theory and application for literacy and math instruction, covering all components of the ELA and Math blocks. The professional development will continue to enhance teachers pedagogy.
Prekindergarten Programs:
Step FOUR ward VPK & Head Start
The Title 1 Step FOUR ward VPK Program is committed to providing a high quality, developmentally appropriate pre-kindergarten experience for four-year-old children. The school district Head Start program is offered at a few Title I school sites and has specific eligibility requirements. Both Step FOUR ward VPK and Head Start offer a full day program with certified teachers and highly qualified instructional assistants. The curriculum focus is on early language and literacy with the implementation of the VPK Education and Head Start Performance Standards.
Title I coordinates its services with other agencies throughout Brevard County.
