BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Brevard Public Schools (BPS) proudly celebrates earning an "A" rating from the State of Florida for the second consecutive year. 

Key District Achievements: 

  • School Improvements: 10 schools improved their letter grade. 

  • High-Performing Schools: 67% of BPS schools earned an A or B rating. 

Academic Highlights for 2025: 

  • English Language Arts (ELA): 3-point increase in percent of students who scored at or above grade level on the Progress Monitoring 3 (PM3) assessment which is 4 points above the state average. 

  • Mathematics: 3-point increase in percent of students who scored at or above grade level on PM3 and End-of-Course (EOC) assessments, aligning with the state average. 

  • Science and EOC Performance: BPS surpassed state averages in: 

  • 5th Grade Science: 60% (5% above state). 

  • 8th Grade Science: 55% (2% above state). 

  • Biology 1: 71% (1% above state). 

  • Civics: 73% (3% above state). 

Superintendent Dr. Mark Rendell lauded the district’s collective effort: "This consecutive 'A' rating reflects the tireless dedication of our students, educators, and staff. Their focus on academic excellence continues to propel BPS forward." 

School Board Chair Gene Trent emphasized the district’s trajectory: "Two years of 'A' ratings signal that Brevard Public Schools is on an upward path. Our middle schools, in particular, are setting a high standard with innovative teaching and impressive gains." 

Standout Success Stories: 

  • Space Coast Jr/Sr.: Achieved an A rating, up from a B, marking a significant milestone. 

  • Central Middle School: Advanced from a C to a B rating. 

  • Thomas Jefferson Middle School: Maintained an A rating with over 10 points gained in ELA and 4+ points in math. 

  • Kennedy Middle School: Leapt from a B to an A rating. 

  • Bayside High School: Improved from a C to a B rating. 

  • Rockledge High School: Rose from a C to a B rating.

  • Palm Bay Elementary: Improved from a C to a B rating.

  • Coquina Elementary: Improved from a B to an A rating.

  • Cambridge Elementary: Improved from a C to a B rating.

  • Oak Park Elementary: Improved from a C to a B rating.

  • Cape View Elementary: Improved from a B to an A rating.

“We have big goals, including moving into the Top 10 school districts in Florida, by 2030”, said Dr. Mark Rendell. “This rating is not the end of the story—it’s just the beginning.” 

BPS’s sustained excellence highlights its commitment to fostering academic growth and preparing students for bright futures. The district looks forward to building on this momentum in the 2025-26 school year.
