riviera elementary school

Brevard Public Schools (BPS) is proud to celebrate Riviera Elementary School for earning recognition as a 2026 Exceeding Expectations Award School by the East Coast Technical Assistance Center (ECTAC). Riviera is one of just 61 schools in Florida to receive this honor, distinguishing itself among the state’s highest-poverty schools for exceptional student achievement and consistent academic growth.

A School That Outperforms Expectations

The Exceeding Expectations Project—launched in 2012—identifies schools that surpass performance predictions through a rigorous, data‑driven review. Using 2025 School Grade data, ECTAC evaluated more than 3,400 schools statewide. Riviera Elementary met the criteria through exemplary performance in:

  • Overall student achievement

  • Demonstrated learning gains

  • Strong ESSA subgroup performance

  • Success with a high percentage of economically disadvantaged students

Beyond the numbers, Riviera stood out for submitting a thoughtful and thorough application showcasing the school’s instructional practices, learning culture, and commitment to student success.

Leadership Reflections

Superintendent Dr. Mark Rendell celebrated the achievement, sharing:

“Riviera Elementary embodies what is possible when a school community believes deeply in every child’s potential. This recognition reflects exceptional teaching, strong leadership, and a school culture that prioritizes student success every single day. We are incredibly proud of the Riviera team.”

Riviera Elementary Principal Mary Beth Myers emphasized the collective effort behind the honor:

“This award belongs to our students, teachers, families, and staff who work tirelessly to create meaningful learning experiences. We are committed to ensuring every child thrives, and this recognition affirms that our efforts are making a difference.”

Celebrating Excellence at the 2026 Conference

Award Schools will be honored at the Exceeding Expectations Conference, held June 10–12, 2026, at the Renaissance Orlando at SeaWorld. The statewide event brings educators together to share impactful strategies that elevate student learning.

Featured highlights include:

  • Keynote address by Ron Clark of the Ron Clark Academy

  • School-led instructional practice sessions

  • Rising Star educator panels

  • Statewide recognition luncheon

ECTAC Director Maria Longa noted that Award Schools represent “determination, innovation, and hope”—setting a standard for what’s possible when belief and commitment drive the work.
