A new era of hands‑on, high‑tech learning is taking flight in North Brevard.
Brevard Public Schools (BPS) has been awarded more than $2 million in federal funding to launch an Aviation Assembly and Fabrication Program at Space Coast Junior/Senior High School—a major investment that will open doors for students eager to enter the booming aerospace and advanced manufacturing industries.
The funding, championed by Congressman Mike Haridopolos through a federal workforce and talent development initiative, builds on the remarkable success of BPS’s existing aviation pathway at Eau Gallie High School. That program has become a regional standout, preparing students for careers in aviation maintenance, aerospace manufacturing, and related technical fields. Now, Space Coast Jr./Sr. High will become the district’s next hub for innovation.
Building the Next Generation of Space Coast Technicians
The new aviation program will immerse students in industry‑aligned, hands‑on training that mirrors real-world job expectations. Students will gain experience in:
Aircraft assembly
Structural fabrication
Welding and metalwork
Surface preparation and painting
Maintenance and repair practices
These skills match the growing needs of Florida’s aerospace sector—one of the fastest‑growing in the country—and position students to step directly into high‑wage careers or pursue further training in aviation and engineering.
A Transformational Opportunity for North Brevard
School Board Chair Matt Susin, who previously taught at Space Coast Jr./Sr. High, celebrated the milestone.
“This funding represents a transformational opportunity for students in North Brevard. Brevard Public Schools remains committed to providing pathways that pair academic excellence with industry‑ready skills. Expanding our aviation and technical training programs ensures our students are prepared for real careers—and strengthens the workforce pipeline that supports the Space Coast’s booming economy.”
School Board Member Megan Wright, representing District 1, emphasized the positive impact the investment will have on the community:
“I’m grateful to Congressman Haridopolos for securing this $2 million investment for Space Coast Jr./Sr. High. His support will bring meaningful new opportunities to our students and strengthen the innovative work already happening on campus. This funding is a win for our children, our families, and the entire community.”
Preparing Students for a High‑Demand Future
With Brevard County at the center of one of America’s most active aerospace corridors, the demand for skilled aviation and space professionals has never been higher. The new program at Space Coast Jr./Sr. High will equip students with access to:
Cutting‑edge tools and equipment
Industry certifications
Real-world, project-based learning
Connections to postsecondary engineering and aviation pathways
Superintendent Dr. Mark Rendell noted the program’s long-term value:
“This investment is about expanding opportunities. Students will gain access to cutting-edge equipment, rigorous industry certifications, and real‑world experience that can open doors to employment, apprenticeships, and postsecondary programs in aviation and engineering.”
A Future‑Focused Commitment to Workforce Readiness
This initiative is part of BPS’s ongoing commitment to developing innovative, future‑ready Career & Technical Education programs across the district. By expanding high‑demand pathways, BPS continues to ensure every student has access to meaningful opportunities that prepare them for success in college, careers, and life.
Brevard Public Schools proudly serves more than 70,000 students across the Space Coast, providing world-class education and real-world experiences that fuel the region’s growing workforce.
